In June, Radio Blau received several complaints from listeners about a programme announcement that was shown on our website for a short time. The issue was also discussed at our last general meeting. Read the statement of our awareness crew about this here.
We regret the discriminatory broadcast description of “PsyPhi”!
The board and members of Radio Blau were as appalled as the listeners who alerted Radio Blau. We are appalled by the broadcast description and the fact that it was on the Radio Blau website. Horrified that the announced content was almost broadcast on Radio Blau. Horrified that we did not notice the inhumane attitude of the show’s creator sooner.
Only after the website announcement text of the “PsyPhi” transmission for 21.06.2022 was criticized by listeners on social media as “fat-hostile”, we became aware of it. The Radio-Verein’s board was informed, voted on it and decided to not broadcast the show and to take the announcement text off our webseite. Both the board and the awareness team of Radio Blau judged the text to be deeply offensive, discriminatory and misleading. It contained bodyshaming, misinformation, contempt for humanity and new-right terms. In the plenary meeting on 05.07.2022 the decision of the board was confirmed.
We thank all those who closely follow the program and broadcasts and report cases of discrimination to Radio Blau!
At our radio station, there is no place for degrading, disrespectful, discriminatory content. We do not tolerate this kind of content on our radio!
The editor of “PsyPhi” was banned from broadcasting by the plenary meeting, as both the broadcast description and the content of the program violated the prohibition of discrimination formulated in the statutes of Radio Blau. It is true that the prerequisite for the use of our community radio is written consent to the statutes. However, as we have seen, this does not provide sufficient protection. The board, the awareness team and other contributors to Radio Blau are currently working on measures to prevent violations of the prohibition of discrimination and to promote a respectful, discrimination-sensitive association culture.
Radio Blau is a free radio station that strives to give marginalized people a voice and the safest, most discrimination-sensitive space possible. Radio Blau aims to provide content free of discrimination and intolerance.
Free radio does not mean that everyone can speak his*her completely unreflective words into the microphone. Free radio means free from advertising, free from commercialism, free from any form of discrediting and independent from state, commercial and religious institutions and parties.
Freedom of speech ends where one’s words violate people’s dignity and being.
