We marvel at the humanist cinema of British director legend Mike Leigh. In his 2008 comedy Happy-Go-Lucky he gives center stage to the unique talent of Sally Hawkins. Her character Poppy, the enthusiastic, optimistic primary school teacher from London, is the root from which this beautiful movie grows and develops. The director's approach of creating characters before story works perfectly with the star performance of Sally Hawkins. Her bubbly, ever-cheery energy marks an amazing tightrope performance and we cheer her on her journey all way.
