Workshops for FLINTA*

Our project “Direktsignal,” which primarily (but not exclusively) aims to empower migrant and BiPoC FLINTA* individuals to express their own topics and concerns through media, is in full swing. We offer numerous workshops and meetings specifically for women and genderqueer individuals, which you can always find at https://www.radioblau.de/termine/direktsignal/. Naturally, the project also produces radio broadcasts; their schedules can be found here.

According to the 2020 Global Media Monitoring Project, only 25% of the people heard, seen, or read about in newspapers, television, and radio news are women, indicating that women are generally less present as interviewees or subjects in the media. This underrepresentation is even more pronounced for migrant women, who are often portrayed in stereotypical ways when they are featured. Therefore, it is essential for our democracy to amplify their voices and make their diverse perspectives visible to promote a fair and inclusive media landscape.

This initiative is co-financed by tax funds based on the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.

Your community radio station in Leipzig is celebrating its 30th anniversary this spring. Our hip-hop editorial team, “Future Classics,” is taking this opportunity to organize a special concert for Radio Blau’s birthday. We are thrilled to announce that we have secured the New York rapper Oddisee, who will be performing with his exceptional band, Good Compny, on the 8th of April at the historic UT Connewitz. Oddisee has been a staple in our programming for over 15 years, and we are excited to present him as part of his anniversary tour for the album “The Good Fight.” Tickets are available here.

Participatory Sound Event for the Day Against Police Violence

On March 15th, it is the International Day Against Police Violence. The artist Laura Joos has produced an acoustic statement, which will be broadcast on Radio Blau on Saturday at 5 PM. The idea: Play this sound piece as loudly as possible. No matter where. No matter what device. From your phone speakers on the bus, from your laptop in the café, through the stereo system in your living room, or the Bluetooth speaker in the park, from the car radio. In private spaces, a maximum of 35 to 40 dB is allowed, in public spaces 45 to 55 dB. Join this collective action—for all the unheard voices.
