One False Move (1992)

The Unhinged-Crew has reached a record number of 5 people in the studio! Noor, Paul, Ramy, Djibril and Heiner return to crime thriller land with Carl Franklin’s sinister yet acutely human cult hit One False Move. We suss out why this little flick managed to top the year-end lists of so many critics and what makes it different from other crime thrillers. We also share our differing views of the characters and opinions of the film in general.

Look Back (2024)
Ramy, Djibril and Heiner reminisce about their experiences with Anime and Manga over their lives and share distant memories of the nerds’ past. Then, we dive deep into this anime about drawing manga. Look Back, released just last year by the newly-formed Studio Durian packs an emotional punch while mostly abandoning typical anime tropes in favor of vibes.
We all praise the incredible art on display and the dense storytelling in this 54 minute long emotional journey.

Flo joins us for the first time, alongside Noor and Heiner, as we discuss Satyajit Ray’s classic of Indian cinema and the first in his Apu trilogy: Pather Panchali. We touch on the concept of rasas in Indian arts, wherein the conveyance of and wrestling with feelings in a piece of art primarily informs its conception. Meanwhile, we also try to articulate our own rasas experienced while watching the Roy family and their struggles.
