THE CAVE · DIALOGUE & Conversations with My Deepfake Dad

A reflection on the community approach of music research, waiving together different methodologies in the making of sound, from improvisation to structured compositions, passing through live set and A\V performance and any kind of other related attitudes.
Radio and technology have always been related each others, as long as the broad of a growing non-real and immaterial space as this media represents its arial forms.

Sarah Sweeney’s father died when he was forty-four and she was seventeen. When Sweeney turned forty-four, she wanted to talk to him again. She contacted Resemble AI, a company that creates clones of voices using machine learning, and they worked together to create an AI model of her father’s voice. When this model was completed Sweeney was able to type and speak words into the interface and hear him speak. Conversations with My Deepfake Dad is a series of six conversations created through Sweeney’s interactions with this audio deepfake of her father.

We all emerge some hours later, baffled by James Greer & Neil Luck / Summer sketches by Cardes

New and forgotten ways of making radio

Tokyo is a city in a continual state of performance, a panoply of lives compressed into a dense metropolis. Underneath all the glossy commerce, all the confronting pop culture, all the tourists, however, is the city’s strange and fascinating underbelly – a rich strata of human subcultures. Over one humid, woozy summer weekend James Greer and Neil Luck traverse the marginalia of Tokyo at night, negotiating its train lines, visiting deserted bubble-era ghost towns, underground jazz venues, salaryman drinking spots, and a tiny bar repurposed as a theatre. “We all emerge some hours later, baffled” is their disorienting mix of reconfigured field recordings and half remembered reflections.

Cardes is a non-project expecting to recall some sounds here and there, depending on variable locations, playing sometimes tiny guitar stuff and sending all that material like virtual postcards.
Those Summer Sketches are based upon two different cards (here and there) from last august, completing with fragments of two conversations with Cardes’ grandmother (in 2006 and 2014) and Styx, a viola de gambe piece played by Benjamin Jarry.

Momentum: Deutsche by Nat Grant & In My Toyota, Los Angeles

New and forgotten ways of making radio

This work is the latest in a 10 year long exploration of daily life and travel through sonic journaling. Momentum: Deutsche was created during two weeks in Recklinghausen and Berlin in May and June 2023 and features many layers of field recordings, digitally altered and collaged.

‘Dans Ma Toyota’ is a series of field-recording pieces produced by Mona Varichon echoing the photographs she presented with the artist-run space Cocotte as part of SYSTEMA 2022 in Marseilles.

Oops, something has happened! The microphone fell into the water. Quel Malheur! Thank goodness our special guest Stefan Nussbaumer shrink-wrapped the microphones and nothing happened to them. So, by chance and without intention, exciting worlds of sound opened up that we don’t want to deprive you of. Have a nice summer! (… and happy winter to Sally & Jon!). More Radia.fm underwater here
