Last week we had our annual meeting with the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig. Ms. Andraschik and Ms. Köhler talked to us about the reduced funding opportunities and our current situation as an association. They also had a look at our new spatial situation following the bricking up of our rear window front due to the building work there. We are pleased that the Department of Culture appreciates our work as a hub for Leipzig’s cultural scene and civic engagement in our city and thank them for their encouragement.

Last Friday, we took part in a roundtable at the L*abore festival, organized by Pop-Impuls, a project to support popular music in Saxony. The topic was the role that independent radio stations play for the Saxon music scene. Much more than with other stations, independent radio stations give regional musicians the opportunity to be played and invited for interviews and studio sessions or to be active as broadcasters themselves.

At Radio Blau, many shows such as “Das Café am Rande der Welt”, “Nightfall”, “Mrs Pepsteins Welt”, “Extrablau”, “Mittagspause”, “Aktuell”, “Jazz and beyond”, “The Real Stuff”, “Fat:Vibez” and “Diving into…” often have Saxon musicians from all kinds of music genres in their playlists – without the pressure of soft ratings and annoying rotations. What would help the broadcasters even more would be money for public relations work and for artists, but also record labels, distributors and concert organizers to proactively get in touch, for example at radioblau@radioblau.de with links to music and references to the musical style. A volunteer office crew can then forward these music suggestions to the appropriate volunteer editors. We would like to thank Isabel and Anne from Pop-Impuls for the exciting exchange and look forward to further cooperation!
