About Radio Blau:
Radio Blau is a non-commercial community radio station, broadcasting from Leipzig in eastern Germany since 1995. The station is operated by Radio-Verein Leipzig e.V., with the aim of providing access to the airwaves to all.
As a community radio station, all are invited to become involved at Radio Blau, whether on air or behind the scenes, and we warmly welcome new participants of all backgrounds and languages. An introduction to Radio Blau is provided on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in German, but additional appointments can be made for the introduction to be held in English as well. Please contact us at radioblau(-)radioblau.de if you are interested.
There is also a Radio Blau meeting on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. to discuss the latest issues affecting the station and to complete the schedule for the next month, often with new radio shows. It is also a great chance to get to know many of the regulars at the station and catch a glimpse of how Radio Blau works. All are welcome!
While most of the station’s programming is indeed in German, we are happy to present shows in other languages as well. If your language is missing, you are welcome to get involved yourselves! We are more than happy to help you get started.
Since you are reading this, you will be happy to know that English can be heard regularly on Radio Blau: Continental Subway, hosted by David in English, can be heard every Tuesday evening at 10 p.m. with a multilingual musical voyage around the globe.
On Kubshow, Kuba straddles the lines between English and German, art and comedy, and does so every fourth Saturday at 8 p.m. (check listings for the exact dates!)
English can also be heard on a less regular basis on other shows and segments as well.
Spanish and Portuguese
Zwischenraum (every other Tuesday at 6 p.m.) has been presenting intercultural life in our city for a number of years, and currently focuses on the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking communities here in particular.
Spanish can also be heard on Babilonia (every fourth Friday at 6 p.m.) and Conexion Glokal Yanga (every fourth Sunday at 12 noon). Conexion Glokal Infantil presents music and stories for kids in a variety of languages (every fourth Sunday at 2 p.m.).
Arabic can be heard increasingly often in Leipzig, and the Arabic-speaking community now has a voice on the radio here as well, every Saturday at 4 p.m. on Falafels and Krauts. The show’s aim is to move beyond clichés towards a greater understanding for one another.
Italian can also be heard regularly on Radio Blau’s Italorama, every other Tuesday at 9 p.m. Toni and Elettra’s charm and choice of music even attracts listeners whose Italian is limited to menus and fancy cars.
